Alocasia Maharani, often called the Alocasia Grey Dragon, is a compact jewel Alocasia hybrid between Alocasia reginula and Alocasia melo, created by botanist Peter Boyce around 2009. It’s prized for its thick, textured, grey green leaves with a leathery, almost stone like surface and softly contrasting lighter veins. This plant stays relatively small, making it perfect for indoor spaces, while still delivering bold character. Juvenile leaves start with green undersides, gradually maturing into deep red abaxials, a trait inherited from reginula. Compared to Alocasia melo, Maharani has lighter veining, slightly softer texture, and richer underside coloration, giving it a more refined, dimensional look.
